Dr. Lazzara was raised in the Chicago area and by happenstance, migrated to the Northeast along with all four of his siblings. He graduated from Marmion Military Academy, and then Marquette University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in biomechanical engineering. After earning his Medical Doctorate at the George Washington University School of Medicine with honors, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Tufts New England Eye Center in 2011. Dr. Lazzara then returned to Chicago to participate in a surgical glaucoma fellowship at Northwestern University and the University Eye Specialists of Chicago.
He has travelled extensively personally and as part of his medical training. During both medical school and internship, he was a member of medical expeditions to secluded Buddhist villages in the Himalayan mountains of northern India with the Himalayan Health Exchange. He also participated in a residency exchange between the ophthalmology departments of Khon Kaen University in Thailand and Tufts New England Eye Center. Dr. Lazzara has contributed to multiple publications in ophthalmology-related journals and book chapters.
Dr. Lazzara specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, small incision routine and complex cataract surgery, and external diseases of the eye. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Glaucoma Society (AGS), the New England Ophthalmology Society (NEOS), and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
